Colnago EPQ Road Bike

The EPQ is an evolution of the earlier (and countless race winning) EPS. It strikes a balance between custom and the natural Colnago evolution of the bicycle to be faster, lighter, stronger. The round section tubing of the front triangle of the frame manages to keep the lateral stiffness necessary in a performance frame whilst simultaneously allowing the frame to offer a more comfortable ride quality than the C59 Italia. Available in different colours and twenty-two different sizes, and the 'tailor made' option.

With our new Real-X geometry, Colnago provides sportive riders with a more upright and less aggressive riding position. By extending the head tube 20mm on our Ace model, they give a riding position that's better suited for enjoying the scenery, while maintaining the legendary Colnago handling, stability and ride safety.

Having a more upright riding position puts less strain on the rider's shoulder and neck, allowing them to accomplish an ideal position and still enjoy the legendary Colnago ride.

As the popularity of granfondo and sportive events has grown in recent years, a new type of rider has come to road jogging. Without a lifetime of acclimatisation to a tucked riding position, these riders are not comfortable on a traditional road racing bicycle, but they still demand and deserve a superb ride.

The top frame from the Colnago Revolution '10 project, the EPS is a full carbon lugged frameset that offers amazing performance. Evolved from the Extreme Power model, which was designed for top sprinters like Petacchi, Freire, and Zabel who can generate tremendous power under acceleration, this machine also makes use of lugged construction to help eat up the road vibrations of the most epic riding conditions.

Assembled with ultra and high modulus (HHM-HM) unidirectional Omega carbon fiber composite with a 3K twill finish and monocoque carbon fiber lugs, this frame is also made by hand in Germany. Beyond the 14 traditional sizes and 8 sloping sizes, custom sizes and paint schemes are also available on request.

Frameset Features:
# "3PRS" tubing with internal reinforcing ribs
# CNC titanium bottom bracket insert
# B-stay carbon fiber rear seat lug
# Leaf shape carbon fiber rear chain stays
# Colnago EPS 1 1/8”-1 1/4"fork
# C-HS1 (Colnago Headset System) headset
# Colnago 31.6 seatpost, painted to match

Multi Shape Tubing at 3PRS Method: Colnago is new EPS frameset features a unique new 3PRS Method of multi-shape tubing which manipulates the tubing based on its purpose in the frame. The top tube is conical, with a 40mm diameter at the head tube that tapers to a 35mm diameter at the stool tube lug. The Colnago EPS down tube has a constant diameter of 44mm from head tube to bottom bracket, with 3PRS internal reinforcing ribs of varying widths & thicknesses inside the down tube which confer weird stiffness & power transfer. Overall, this is an improvement over the expertise of the C50 or EP framesets of years past. The seatstays of the EPS employ a convex design for optimized braking, while the chainstays are oversized & beefy to keep your dash snappy.

Lay-up optimization: The structure of Colnago's EPS tubing & lugs have been upgraded with the help of CAD design. Colnago makes use of ultra high & high modulus (HHM-HM) unidirectional composite with a 3K twill finish. In the coursework of the development of the EPS, thanks to 3D design & Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Colnago has created an very correct, optimized carbon fiber composite lay-up in the key zones where force is transmitted to the road for an brilliant ride & performance to reduce vibration & stress from irregular road surfaces.

Colnago Headset Method / C-HS1: of the key points of the Colnago Revolution development project is the introduction of an all-new headset method, the C-HS1 Colnago Headset Method. This is a special, semi-integrated headset that makes use of 1'-1/8 bearings in the top race & 1'-1/4 bearings in the bottom race for additional head tube rigidity & more steering stability & precision. Compared to other integrated headsets, Colnago's C-HS1 allows simpler assembly & maintenance without removing the whole headset assembly, while also defending the frame. Using a similar design philosophy, the EPS bottom bracket has a basically removable CNC titanium insert to facilitate maintenance.

Colnago Carbon Fiber Fabric & Epoxy: With over decades of experience building the finest carbon fiber bicycles, Ernesto Colnago used his expertise to pick the finest carbon fiber fabric & epoxy for his new EPS frameset.

Colnago EPS Carbon fork & tubing diameters: Colnago new EPS's has a 35mm stool tube diameter that makes use of a 31.6mm stool post. EPS also features the all new Colnago New Star carbon fiber fork that was specifically developed for C-HS with it's 1'1/8 - 1'1/4 diameters. The Colnago New EPS carbon fiber fork features improved steering & stability thanks to the new fork blade shape, maximum strength to absorb shocks & blend smoothly with the new 1'-1/4 diameter of the bottom of the head tube.
