Founded in 1977 by the three Basso brothers, Marino, Renato and Alcide, Basso has a long and illustrious history of producing finely crafted road bikes. Known as Mr 10,000 volts, Marino won the world professional road race championship in 1972, and his successes included six Tour de France stage victories, 15 stages at the Giro d'Italia and a further six at the Vuelta a Espaa.
A new star is born in the Basso R&D department. It is dedicated to the most demanding riders. It has a full monocoque T700 3K carbon fiber frame and its front and rear triangle tubes have visible longitudinal lines that remind us of a four-leafed clover shape. The new Astra has a maximum flexion of 0,21 mm on the BB shell and a maximum torsion of 2,3 mm on the head tube ; on both tests we apply a weight of 50 kgs at 40 cm distance from the fulcrum. It can be ridden in long distance races in a very smooth and comfortable way, but it is very reactive and precise in fast accelerations or very winding roads. Six color combinations will let you choose your personalized look. This is an exclusive product for demanding athletes.
Great handling, light and comfortable over long distances (and I 've done quite a few), no rattles to speak of, paint problems... I have none.
The Athena groupset works as it should and while the Mavic Equipe wheels are not the lightest coupled with Schwalbe Blizzards I am very pleased overall.
Built up into a great handling bike especially on fast alpine descents.
The four leaf cover design carbon tubing makes the bike quite stiff but at the same time it absorbs the bumps. Its geometry makes it a good climber and on the decents it goes were you point it. This is my first full carbon bike and its an absolute dream to ride.
The Basso Astra is one hell of a good ride with Fulcrum 3s and campag centaur carbon 10 groupset.
